Ted Atchison
- Trust Chairman
Ted is a freelance consultant to the civil and structural
engineering industry and was previously a consulting
engineer to the Trust. He has been heavily involved
with the development of facilities at the HISC precinct,
in particular the Newcastle Harness Racing Club. He
is a past Rotary District Governor and was the recipient
of Rotary's highest honour, the Paul Harris Medal. Ted
was a sportsman of note and a long time member of the
Tech College cricket team in the Newcastle City and
Suburban Competition. This is Ted's first term on the
Trust.
Gwen Jackson
- Trust Vice President
Gwen has spent more than 35 years in the finance industry,
with a focus on public accounting. In recent times she
was the National Finance Manager for Coopers & Lybrand's
Hunter Practice. She is currently working as a part-time
accountant. Gwen is a member of the Newcastle Sister
City Committee and the Treasurer of the licensed club
at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
Leigh Maughan
- Trust Hon. Secretary
Leigh has a long association with Hunter sport. He was
instrumental in the push to have Newcastle included
in the NSW Rugby League and in 1988 was appointed as
the Knight's inaugural Marketing Manager. He was a foundation
Director with the Club and is a Life Member. He spent
many years in sports broadcasting in both television
and radio. Leigh is currently the Secretary of the HISC
Trust and Manager of the licensed club at EnergyAustralia
Stadium.
Ron Harvey
- Trust Hon. Treasurer
Ron is the longest serving member on the Trust. In 1969
he was appointed as the ISC Foundation Manager. He relinquished
that position in 1975 and became a member of the Trust.
In that time, he has overseen many major developments
within the precinct. Ron has spent many years working
in the hospitality and club industry. He is also an
all-round sportsman, having played Sheffield Shield
cricket for NSW in 1956 and rugby union for Australia
in 1958 and 1959.
Jim Bell
Jim has been member of the HISC Trust since 1989. He
is a successful businessman, owning and operating a
newsagency for more than 21 years. Jim has had a life-long
connection with the harness racing industry, as an owner,
trainer and driver. He has been an executive member
of the Newcastle Harness Racing Club for more than 25
years and is currently in his second term as the Club's
President.
Frank Bates
Frank is a professor of Law at the University of Newcastle.
He is widely published in a variety of fields including
law, education and social work. He worked in Tasmania
in the 1970s and early 1980s. He was also a senior Fulbright
scholar in the USA in 1986. He continued work with the
Tasmanian Law Reform Commission and the Commonwealth
Family Law Council from 1990 to 1993. Whilst in the
Apple Isle he spent many years as a cricket administrator
and became a life member of the Southern Suburbs Cricket
Association.
Dianne Pascoe
Dianne's involvement in sports administration spans
20 years across a number of sports. She currently holds
a seat on the board of the Northern NSW Soccer Federation,
is the President of Charlestown Netball Association
and is the Chairperson of the Lake Macquarie City Sports
Council. Dianne was appointed to the HISC Trust in 1999.
She is currently working with the Planning and Business
Improvement Group at the University of Newcastle, which
is overseeing the University's recent restructure.
Jenny Roberts
Qualified with an Honours Degree in Economics, and Diplomas
in Urban Planning and Education, Jenny has an extensive
background in business and Government relations. Her
previous roles with the Hunter Economic Development
Corporation, Honeysuckle Development Corporation, Department
of State and Regional Development and as Economic Development
and Tourism Manager at Newcastle City Council provide
the Trust with a regional economic and strategic context
for its work. This is Jenny's first term as a community
representative on the Trust.
Michael Hill
Michael is a well respected figure in the Hunter's business
and sporting circles. He is the principal of Newcastle
law firm, Turnbull Hill, the Chairman of the Newcastle
Knights and Director of the National Rugby League. Michael
is also a former NSW Sheffield Shield cricketer.
Laraine Clifford
Laraine has been involved in sport, particularly basketball,
for more than 30 years: as a player, referee and administrator.
For a number of years she was the top-rated female referee
in NSW and has been an executive member of the Newcastle
Basketball Association. She was appointed to the Trust
in 1999. Laraine works full time as the area co-ordinator
of a leading dental manufacturing company and has successfully
run a number of her own businesses.
Ben Chard
Ben has worked for a number of years in the field of
economic and regional development. He has held the position
of Regional Manager for State and Regional Development
and since 1997 has been working for the NSW Premier's
Department as the Hunter Co-ordinator. He was recently
appointed to the Trust and has been involved in the
development of plans and addressing issues to ensure
the redevelopment of the Hunter ISC.
Philip Keady
Philip is the Manager Strategic Facility Planning and
Trusts with the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation.
He has spent 20 years working for State Government in
the area of sport and recreation, following a period
as a private consultant in open space planning and sports
facility management. Philip’s current responsibilities
with the Department include provision of Ministerial
advice and liaison with sporting facility Trusts within
the Sport and Recreation portfolio, and administration
of the Eastern Creek Raceway lease and oversight of
a new International standard drag strip development
in Western Sydney. Philip joined the Trust as an Ex-Officio
member in January 2003.
Graham Clarke
Community Services Director, Newcastle City Council.
The Trust is responsible to the
Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation,
the Hon Sandra Nori, MP.
